We are liaising with schools to ensure that appropriate and contingent isolation plans and facilities for students who present with COVID 19 symptoms whilst at school are in place. Current UK Government advice via Public Health England is that a symptomatic student is not permitted to be moved from their household. Whilst at school the students “boarding house” is classified as their household and therefore following the above guidance it is not possible or right to place a symptomatic student into a host family. It is expected that Schools will follow Public Health England, Safe Schools UK advice and the BSA Charters and provide isolation on school premises for any symptomatic students. https://www.gov.uk/government/publications/coronavirus-covid-19-guidance-on-isolation-for-residential-educational-settings/coronavirus-covid-19-guidance-on-isolation-for-residential-educational-settings We will continue to update this information in line with changes here in the UK.

We are delighted to announce that we have recently achieved the Boarding Schools Association (BSA) Certified Guardian status, as well as being further recognised and awarded AEGIS Gold Standard Accreditation. This is the most prestigious accolade that a guardianship organisation can hold and signifies the highest standards of safeguarding and care of international students coming to the UK. You will see below that Guardians International is yet again the most highly inspected and monitored guardianship provider in the UK, holding all three quality marques and rated by QEGUK as “Excellent” the highest possible rating. The Boarding School Association (BSA) has recently published a COVID Safe Charter which is a voluntary code (not compulsory) which schools can adopt. It aims to provide reassurance to international students and their parents that schools have done everything they can to ensure their safety when they return. Along with AEGIS (The Association for the Education and Guardianship of International Students) Guardians International is working in partnership with schools, other guardians and the BSA to ensure we are fully prepared together to ensure a safe return for all our students. https://aegisuk.net/aegis-statement-covid-19-updated-27th-may-2020/ https://www.boarding.org.uk/media/news/article/14712/Coronavirus-disease-COVID-19-guidance-update-as-of-08-06-2020

We have been speaking to all of our accredited taxi companies that we (and your school) use to transport students to ensure the safety of your child whilst they are travelling. We have ensured the following precautions and measures are compulsory to keep our students safe: All drivers and pupils will wear a mask/face covering. Drivers will sanitise doors, door handles and seats using disinfectant spray after each journey. Social distancing of 2m will be maintained on greeting. All drivers will wear gloves when handling pupil’s luggage. Drivers will carry hand sanitiser and both pupil and driver will sanitise their hands before entering the vehicle. Pupils will be asked to sit in the back of the vehicle behind the passenger seat. A window will always be kept open. To maintain a flow of fresh air into the vehicle. Pupils and drivers should carry their own tissues in-case they cough or sneeze and dispose of them appropriately.

The UK Government has announced that people entering the Country from overseas will need to quarantine for a period of 14 days upon arrival in the UK, as of 08/06/2020. It is unclear at present how long this will be in effect, and if any countries will be exempt. For Guidance please refer to the UK Government boarder control information here and take time to understand what is required as far as entrance to the UK. https://www.gov.uk/uk-border-control You must complete the public locator forms before you travel. You cannot submit the form until 48 hours before you’re due to arrive in the UK and you will need to show your completed form when you arriving at the UK border. Either print a copy, or showing it on your phone. https://www.gov.uk/provide-journey-contact-details-before-travel-uk For Information on how to self-isolate on arrival please see the information here: https://www.gov.uk/government/publications/coronavirus-covid-19-how-to-self-isolate-when-you-travel-to-the-uk/coronavirus-covid-19-how-to-self-isolate-when-you-travel-to-the-uk It is possible that pupils arriving in August or September will need to be quarantined and we are currently in communication with our schools to establish how this can be facilitated. Other options available are to be hosted with one of our Host Families (subject to availability) or to arrive with family members early into the UK to facilitate this 14 day period.

We do not know whether quarantine requirements will still be in place in August. Our advice if looking to book a flight would be to make a booking to arrive in time for the start of any quarantine arrangements your school has put in place, or to coincide with any host arrangements. If you require information on how to book this, please contact your Guardians International Student Coordinator. Please make sure that the booking is flexible to allow for it to change to just before term starts if the quarantine rules change.

Here at Guardians International we are currently in the planning and preparation stage to welcome our students back in September, and have spoken to many of our schools, and transport providers who are also doing the same. We all seem very united in our positive attitudes to making it happen and to keeping international students as safe as possible when they do return. Through the many conversations we have been having with schools and overseas parents, we have found what is concerning parents the most is the process and timing for a safe and orderly return to school. As guardians we are fully committed to supporting all students to achieve this.
